The USA bans the import of Turkmen cotton and any products containing it, reports the US Customs and Border Control Service.
The reasons for the ban are not reported. American law firm Crowell & Moring recalls that in 2016, the public organization U.S. Cotton Campaign sent a petition to the US Customs Service with a request to prohibit the import of cotton products from Turkmenistan, as they, according to public figures, are produced using forced labor.
The campaign dealt with similar violations in Uzbekistan, but the ban was not affected by this country.
It is reported that the ban on the import of Turkmen cotton in the USA began to operate from May 18.
On May 16, US President Donald Trump received in Washington Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In Central Asia, the main cotton producers are Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
