A criminal case was initiated against a 53-year-old general Shukhrat Tashpulatov, Deputy Chairman of the National Security Service of Uzbekistan (from 14 March renamed to the State security service). This was reported by the Central Asian News Service.
According to the Ozodlik source, Shukhrat Tashpulatov was detained in connection with the case of Shukhrat Gulyamov, Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee in February, at the request of the Military Prosecutor's Office. The charges against him are still unknown.
Shukhrat Tashpulatov was Deputy Chairman of the National Security Service since July 2017 and Head of the Tashkent regional administration. He was dismissed from office this January.
In January, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who was in the Surhandariya region, criticized the National Security Service and compared it to the 1937 repression of the last century. After that, officers of the National Security Service were dismissed and arrested.
