The sixth meeting of the Cooperation Committee between the European Union and Tajikistan was held in Brussels. On behalf of Tajikistan, the meeting was attended by first deputy Minister of Trade and Economic Development of the Republic of Tajikistan Zavkizoda Zavki Amin.
According to the press release of the European Union, the parties consider that democratic reforms and respect for human rights are the main directions of the EU-Tajikistan relations.
As stated by representatives of the European Union, the rights and freedoms of citizens are limited in Tajikistan. "Freedom of speech and the ability of the people to express their political and democratic views in the country can be the basis for sustainable economic growth", - written in the statement.
The European Union welcomed the upcoming International Conference on Combating Terrorism, Prevention of Violence in Dushanbe in May this year.
