South Korean fans as hosts of the Winter Olympic Games actively support athletes from other countries, reports The New York Times.
On February 21, during the performance of the figure skaters Aiza Mambekova and Elizabeth Tursynbaeva at the Olympics in Pyeongchang, 70 fans, waving Kazakh flags, were seen in the stands.
All of them turned out to be South Koreans, some of them were employees of Sigong Tech. They wanted to demonstrate support to skaters from the country, which provided the company with a contract for the design of the pavilion at EXPO-2017, the American edition notes.
Sigong Tech manager Ha Yong-sung said that he ordered about 70 Kazakhstan flags and attracted 30 employees. The rest of the flags were distributed to random spectators.
"Everyone knows, for example, the United States, but few know Kazakhstan, so we wanted to support this country," Ha said.
Figure skater Elizabeth Tursynbayeva after the performance in the short program received 57.95 points and took 15th place.
Another Kazakhstan figure skater Aisa Mambekova, who made her debut at the Olympics, was not selected for an arbitrary program.
