Russia expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for sending an observer to the Congress of the Syrian National Dialog on January 30 in Sochi, the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.
In an appeal by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov addressed to Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov, "the past event will go down in history as a major and important step towards the restoration of peace and stability in Syria."
"The adopted final statement confirms the non-alternative nature of the political settlement of the conflict in Syria under the auspices of the United Nations based on decisions taken by the international community, including UN Security Council Resolution 2254," Lavrov said in his message.
"I am pleased that during the preparation and holding of this large-scale forum we had the opportunity to maintain a stable coordination of activities with our foreign partners, among which the most important role belongs to Kazakhstan, carrying out the mission of the hospitable owner of the Astana process," the message reads.
The Russian Foreign Minister also highly appreciated the contribution of Kazakhstan to the achievement of peace in Syria, expressing confidence that the cooperation of Kazakhstan and Russia on the Astana platform to ultimately bring tangible benefits.
