Passports in the Latin alphabet will be issued from 2021, said Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Culture and Sports Yerlan Kozhagapanov, at the session of the Government.

"A plan has been prepared for translating the alphabet of the Kazakh language into Latin script. Based on the Latin graphics, spelling rules will be developed on the new Kazakh alphabet, IT-applications for the text-based recodifies into the Latin alphabet, " he said.

He also mentioned that in the second stage in 2021-2023 it is planned to ensure the issuance of passports and identity cards of a citizen of Kazakhstan and other documents in the state language based on Latin graphics. Also, seminars and lectures, courses with the involvement of philologists and linguistic scholars for the training of teachers of the centers and of the adult population are organised.

"Third stage 2024 - 2025 years, the translation of office work of local executive bodies, state media and state print media into the Latin schedule in stages, as well as a phased transition of office work of educational organizations to the Latin schedule," concluded the Vice Minister.
