On December 14, 'President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev is aware about the current situation of miners in the Karaganda region' commented deputy of the Senate of Parliament, the eldest daughter of Kazakh President Dariga Nazarbayeva about the protest of ArcelorMittal Temirtau miners.
‘The head of state is aware of everything that is happening in the country, and especially, about Karaganda region. I am very sorry that the administration of ArcelorMittal Temirtau" brought the conflict to such a situation. I must say, working conditions are heavy of miners. Each day is associated with risk, including for health, for life. Mines for the Karaganda region are an important life-supporting component’.
She stressed that ‘the requirements of the miners are known: they want to raise wages by 100%. However, we need to consider the economic situation in the company. Also, ArcelorMittal Temirtau does not disclose this information yet, whether they have the economic opportunity to raise their salaries by 100%. In any case, I would like and wish that a compromise agreement of all the parties concerned is reached. This is the only way. We must seek a compromise’, Nazarbayeva said.
Recall, starting from December 11, miners of ArcelorMittal Temirtau have protested, demanding higher wages and reducing pension ages. Negotiations between miners and representatives of mines have continued.
