Investments in the telecom sector in the country grew by almost 28% over the year, reports Ranking.kz.

In January – April of this year, investments in information and communications reached 21.8 billion tenge, the amount increased by 27.5% year-on-year. During the same period a year earlier, investments amounted to 17.1 billion tenge, with an annual growth of 18.8%. Almaty has the most investment in this area: 8.1 billion tenge - 8.8% less than a year earlier (8.9 billion tenge). Also in the top three included Nur-Sultan and North Kazakhstan region - 3.8 billion and 2.7 billion, respectively.

In May of this year, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Askar Mamin, held a working meeting on the implementation of the fifth generation communication network in Kazakhstan. During the meeting, the impact of the introduction of new technology on the expansion of opportunities for the development of the digital economy and the Internet of Things (IoT) was discussed, the official resource of the Government of Kazakhstan reports.

According to the Ministry of Digital Development, the defense and aerospace industry of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan, along with the United States, South Korea, Switzerland and Estonia, is among the ten countries in the world that have begun piloting the introduction of a new network. As part of infrastructure development to cover 5G by the end of this year, a pilot project is planned to be implemented in the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty and Shymkent. In general, it is expected that the network 5G will cover all settlements with more than 50 thousand people.
