The head of state examined the new building of the UN office, which houses the 17 regional divisions of the largest international organization, reports the press service of Akorda.
The President noted the symbolism of visiting the office on the day when a holiday of particular importance is celebrated - the Day of Unity of the People of Kazakhstan.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that Kazakhstan is fully committed to the principles of the UN and intends to continue active cooperation with the international community in order to preserve security, stability and protect human rights.
“This beautiful building will serve the interests of the United Nations.” The UN is a common home for all countries. I am confident that our cooperation will grow. We will support the activities of the UN offices in Kazakhstan in the name of security throughout the world, the Head of State said.
In turn, the UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan Norima Shimomura thanked the President of Kazakhstan and stressed that this beautiful building is a gift from the city of Almaty. The diplomat expressed confidence that the new office will become a symbol of strong friendship and partnership between Kazakhstan and the UN.
During his visit, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke with the staff of the international organization, familiarized himself with the work of the library and representative offices of the regional divisions of the United Nations.
