It is reported by the press service of Roscosmos.
“The State Commission decided to send the Spectrum-RG space observatory to the Baikonur cosmodrome on April 24, 2019 to continue preparations for the launch, which is scheduled for June 21, 2019,” the message reads.
"Spectrum-RG" is designed to conduct a survey of the entire sky in the X-ray range of the electromagnetic spectrum. It includes two X-ray telescopes with oblique optics: eROSITA and ART-XC, which were created in Germany and Russia, respectively.
“The main goal of the project is to build a map of the whole sky, on which all the largest clusters of galaxies (about a hundred thousand) will be marked, and also to register about three million supermassive black holes that“ hide ”in the centers of galaxies and actively accrete matter. This large-scale "population census" of the universe is needed to study its origin and evolution. Scientists will be able to observe the life of clusters from the "kindergarten" (less massive clusters at earlier stages) to the "school" and "institute", explained in Roscosmos.
