During a riot in a strict regime colony in the town of Vahdat in western Tajikistan, on the evening of May 19, three guards and 29 prisoners were killed, reports "Khovar" citing the Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan.

According to them, on the evening of May 19, 30 convicted colonies involved in the Islamic State terrorist organization wanted to escape. They, armed with knives and sharp objects, first took hostage and killed three officers of the colony. After that, 8 particularly dangerous criminals convicted of involvement in the IG were released from the punishment cell, and then, in order to intimidate in front of other convicts, five were killed and dozens of other prisoners were injured, the republic's General Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Penalties said.

During the operation to suppress the riot, 24 prisoners were killed, 35 people were detained, according to an official report. The country's Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case.

According to the ministry, the organizers of the riot were members of prohibited extremist groups, including the IG.
