The government of Tajikistan closed 1938 mosques in the country. This was reported by the ca-news.org.

As stated by the head of the Committee for Religious Affairs and Traditions of the government of Tajikistan Hussein Shokirov, at the initiative of the committee, the mosques around the country were inspected. During the inspection, the documents of 1938 mosques were found to be incorrect. In this regard, it is instructed to close these mosques.

In addition, Committee for Religious Affairs and Traditions of the government of Tajikistan certified the imams in the Republic. As a result, 35 imams were dismissed from their position, who were unable to show their religious knowledge.

Recall, earlier the government of Tajikistan forbade imams who studied abroad to work in mosques. In general, recent years, the religious sphere is strictly controlled by official Dushanbe.
