As stated by the press service of the Ministry of National Economy, in 2017 the population of the country reached 18 million 137,3 thousand people. 57,4 percent (10 million 413,2 thousand) of them live in the city, 42,6 percent (7 million 724.1 thousand) live in rural areas. In 2017, the population of Kazakhstan rose by 231,3 thousand people (1.3%) comparing with 2016.
From January to November 2017, 2,896 babies between 0 and 12 months died in the country. Compared to the previous year, this figure dropped by 10,9 percent. The infant mortality rate was 8,05% per 1000 children.
According to the migration authorities, the number of migrants arriving in the country in 2017 rose by 21.2% comparing to 2016 and made up 14 thousand 528 people. The number of migrants who left Kazakhstan was 30 thousand 38 people.
