Uzbekistan and the European Union have begun the first stage of talks on expanding bilateral cooperation in Tashkent.The document focuses primarily on trade, investments and regional security.
The document can be signed during Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Brussels.
In addition, official negotiations with Uzbekistan on November 23, 2018 have been announced in Brussels. Cooperation agreement between Uzbekistan and the EU was signed on July 1, 1999. The document is primarily intended to support economic and social spheres. This days, the EU is implementing 25 projects in Uzbekistan with a budget of 103 million euros. Of these, 10 projects cover regional development. It is provided with 33,5 million euros.
Moreover, Uzbekistan takes part in the Central Asian Education Development (Erasmus +) program, as well as border management (BOMCA), drug trafficking (CADAP) projects. The EU's financial assistance to Uzbekistan in 2014-2020 is worth 168 million euros.
