The level of freedom of speech in Kazakhstan can be estimated at 7-8 points on a 10-point scale, said the Minister of Information and Communications, Dauren Abayev, at a briefing in the Government.

"The indicator that our press is free, I believe, despite the fact that I now have to go, you ask a question. This is one of the indicators of your freedom, that is, no one is hitting you in the arms? "I stand in front of you, answer to you your question. Again I say, my internal perception of the freedom of speech index is 7-8, I am sure that we have something to strive for, " said Abayev.

His assessment is objective. At a time when international ratings, prepared by the survey method, are more subjective than expert evaluation.

He also told about the searches in the editorial offices of Ratel.kz and Forbes Kazakhstan magazine. He noted that the Ministry cannot interfere in the investigation measures.

"But for our part we will strongly recommend to our colleagues that all these processes be as transparent and accessible to the mass media representatives," the minister said.

Recall, on April 2, it became known that the editorial portal Ratel.kz and Forbes Kazakhstan were searched.
