For the first time team of Kazakhstan won gold at the Winter Paralympic Games.

At the Winter Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Alexander Kolyadin won a gold on a 1,5-kilometer-long ski race. This is the first gold medal in the history of Kazakhstan's Winter Paralympic Games. Earlier, in 1994 at the Paralympic Games in Norway, Lubov Vorobeva won the bronze medal in this skiing race. Since then, Kazakhstani athletes have not won prize winning places.

On March 12, before this another Kazakh skier Alexander Gerlic took the fourth place in the 20 km race. In general, six athletes have taken part in the Winter Olympic Games this year. At present time, Kazakhstan team is on the 13th place in the overall standings with 1 gold. The Paralympic Games, which began on March 9, will end on March 18.
