About a thousand citizens of Afghanistan will study in Kazakhstan's universities within the educational program, reports press service of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko addressed a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York. According to him, an international conference "Expansion of opportunities for women in Afghanistan" will be held this autumn in Astana.
"Our country has taken the initiative to continue the education program for Afghan citizens with its co-financing from the European Union and other partners. In the framework of our educational program worth about 50 million dollars from 2010 to 2021 in the universities of Kazakhstan will train about 1,000 Afghan citizens," said Roman Vasilenko.
Now the European Union is preparing to fund for a joint project with the United Nations to train Afghan girls in Kazakhstani universities.
Recall, in January, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the meeting of the Security Council noted the contribution of Kazakhstan to the consolidation of peace in Afghanistan. According to him, the republic allocated $ 50 million to train Afghan students. More than 500 Afghans have been trained in Kazakhstani universities.
