The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon nominated a state award named "Leader of the Nation - Emomali Rahmon". The award will be given to citizens of Tajikistan and foreign nationals and stateless persons, who make a special contribution to the development of democracy. This was reported by the Central Asian News Service.
The prize was awarded on the basis of the Law "Leader of the Nation - the Founder of Peace and Accord". According to this law, it is possible to establish the Order of the Leader of the Nation, to create a museum of the nation leader and also a library and archive.
The prize holder will receive a badge and a cash prize of 125 thousand somoni (over 14 thousand dollars). On the badge will depict gilded Emomali Rahmon's image.
Emomali Rahmon, who ruled Tajikistan for more than a quarter of a century, was given the status of a national leader in 2015.
In 2016, Tajikistan introduced amendments to the constitution to allow Rakhmon to run for presidency again.
