Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a law forbidding showing in films and TV programs sex, violence and bad habits, reports Ozodlik.
According to official reports, Berdymukhamedov signed the Law of Turkmenistan ‘On Television and Radio Broadcasting’ at the end of last week.
The law also calls for creating a positive image of the country. One of the points of the fourth article of the new law indicates ensuring the protection of minors from the dissemination of public information that adversely affects their physical, mental or moral development, especially related to the dissemination of pornographic and violent information and information that encourages harmful habits. Also, in the 44-article it is stated that the prohibition of such materials is due to the protection of national interests.
In Turkmenistan, all types of local media, and especially TV, are in the possession and under strict state control. Even the content of cable television channels is strictly censored and any scenes of movies that censors consider obscene are cut out.
Earlier, December 2017, the authorities of Turkmenistan have banned women from driving. It does not matter whether they have a driving license or not.
