Kazakhstan to help Tajikistan to use effectively water of the "Kairak Kum" reservoir.
Kazakhstan sent a document to Tajikistan for the rational use of water of the "Kairak Kum" water reservoir. As stated by the first deputy minister of energy and water resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Sultan Rahimzoda, Kazakhstan offered to help in the rational use of water resources of the "Kairak Kum" reservoir. According to him, Uzbekistan also intends to assist the "Kairak Kum" reservoir and was established a special working group.
Sultan Rakhimzoda, during the interview with journalists, told: "The agreement does not mean that Tajikistan will sell the water. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will help to accumulate a lot of water to the “Kairak Kum” reservoir in summer. It is required a great deal of money. Astana and Tashkent are ready to provide these funds to Tajikistan".
Tajikistan worked closely with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in regulating water flow until 2008. Both countries provided financial and technical assistance to collect water to the SyrDarya.
"Kairak Kum" is located in the border of the Sogdi region of Tajikistan and the Ferghana region of Uzbekistan. It is one of the largest reservoirs in Tajikistan. "Kairak Kum" water reservoir was built to regulate the flow of the Syrdarya river.
